PERIODONTAL SERVICES

Periodontics focuses on the supporting structures of teeth, most notably the gums and mouth bones. It largely deals with inflammation of a person’s gums and the treatment of periodontitis, a condition that is more commonly referred to as gum disease. Our experts will examine the gums during your regular checkups to make sure that the patient hasn’t developed periodontitis. If it is determined that you are suffering from gum disease, we will likely provide periodontal treatment methods to address the issue as quickly as possible.

At first, gum disease will likely appear in the form of swollen gums that may become inflamed or bleed when the individual flosses, brushes or has their teeth professionally cleaned. The next stage of the disorder consists of the gums pulling away from the teeth, creating empty spaces known as periodontal pockets. These empty spaces can easily become infested with tartar and plaque, helping the condition to spread more easily throughout the mouth. Our experts will measure the deepness of the periodontal pockets in order to determine how serious the condition has become. The deeper the pockets, the more serious the condition.

Left untreated, this condition can reach the jawbone and cause it to deteriorate and decay. Once the jawbone has begun to deteriorate, a bone grafting procedure may be necessary to restore the structure. If the jawbone is allowed to further deteriorate, it can cause tooth loss.

At Siesta Village Dentistry, we understand the seriousness of periodontitis, and we provide effective scaling and root planing treatments to help deal with the problem before extensive damage occurs. Our scaling and root planing procedures are highly effective in treating gum disease and helping to prevent the condition from spreading. After the treatment has been provided, your gums will begin to heal, and you will be able to put your focus on maintaining your restored oral health.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing treatment consists of using advanced dental tools to remove tartar and plaque that exists deep below the gum line. During this procedure, we can remove harmful materials below the gum line that are causing serious damage. To complete the process, we will smooth out the root surfaces to prevent future buildups from occurring. After treatment, the patient can expect their gums to heal, as long as they provide proper maintenance and care moving forward.

Any patient who is suffering from gum disease should seek out treatment as early as possible to prevent serious damage from occurring. Our team at Siesta Village Dentistry is ready to treat your condition in order to restore the health of your gums and the look of your smile.
